No doubt, Paredes Family restaurant is popular with the locals due to the volume and variety of food, but the general quality of the majority of entrees is as low as is possible and still be fit for human consumption, for example, most of the meats stew in some kind of juice/water which gives the meat a boiled chewy texture perfect for choking on, and stain a funky color to the white meats you pluck out of the vat. The salad bar consists of iceberg only, with an unessecary variety of unappealing mayo-based and gelatin dishes. The low prices match though. There are a few selections that do offer a pleasant surprise, like the bread pudding and fried fish, and the bar seems to be well stocked and suited for a watching a football game with friends. The decor is mixed with some glossy woodwork and seasonal decoration and rather unpleasantly outdated commercial fixtures. This is a totally unbiased review, some people are going to love the all you can eat for under $10 feature, but there are certainly trade-offs that shouldn't be ignored in a review for someone new exploring local dining options in a small East Texas town which is a healthy food desert void of the kind of fresh produce which is necessary to even provide the quality of fresh meal which the human body is designed for. Paredes is best regarded as a cultural experience, popular and understood in it's context, but which outside that context, offers a truly disturbing glimpse of what a local community values as "great" food.

Great place to go! Awesome service. Good food. Very reasonable price. Check it out.

Nice family style buffet. Nicely decorated. The food was little on the bland side, but as it's a family restaurant that is to be expected. They had a variety of entrees, Mexican, southern entrees and sides--chicken fried stake, gravy, corn, green beans brisket, mashed potatoes. Desserts - cobblers and puddings. Staff was attentive and understanding when babies made a mess. Most of the veggies seemed to be canned, I would have given them another star if there were more fresh veggies on the buffet.

Haven't been here for a few months. Has changed. Beef enchiladas only had beef in the middle and very little of it. Very soggy and gooey. Mexican casserole bland, very little flavor and cold. Spanish rice not fully cooked, crunchy. Wife's dinner had meat that was fried hard. Employees visiting with friend in dining room laughing about friend's child screaming loudly. Thought it was funny. We love children but employees visiting where customers want to enjoy a nice evening meal and sounding like a party is unacceptable. Very disappointed. Will be awhile before we go here again. Shame. Used to be a nice place.

Great food, great prices. They were very accommodating to us. We celebrated our Grandpa's 80th birthday there. We had 22 people and they had a separate area for us that made it very roomy and enjoyable. Highly recommend.
